Check out the new Citibank American Airlines Bonus

Citibank has updated their AAdvantage offer and extended it. The offer also now includes a companion ticket! See bottom of article for the latest updates.

Citibank has just released the largest new card bonus of American Airlines AAdvantage miles ever, either 100,000 or 75,000 miles depending on which of the accounts you apply for. You can choose from either personal or business cards, all of which have the annual fee waved for the first year. Many have been successful at applying for two or even three cards and qualifying for the bonus miles on each card. Citi will generally posts the bonus miles the day after your statement comes out so this is going to be a great deal for anyone that likes to travel, especially for free!

If you want to receive multiple bonuses all you need to do is apply for a different card type. Citi supposedly will only let you have one AAdvantage personal and one business card, but many have applied for two personal cards and were instantly approved for both. The key is to apply for each card type around the same time (less than 3 hours) before the system can tell that you already have an open AAdvantage card. I applied for a personal Visa and American Express at the same time and was approved for both. Two days later I applied for the business card and was approved for that also.

Citi has set an expiration date for these offers of Oct 31st but given the popularity of these offers it is highly likely they will pull the applications early. See the link below to apply now before this once in a life time bonus disappears!

Personal cards:

Citibank Visa & American Express 75,000 mile offer:

  • 75,000 American Airlines bonus miles for spending at least $1500 on the card within the first six months of account opening.
  • No annual fee for the first year.

  • No annual fee for the first year.

Business cards:

If you have any questions regarding this offer, post a comment below and I will be glad to answer any of your questions.

An easy way to meet your spending requirement:

Use Amazon Payments to send money.
You must open two accounts (one to send, one to receive). $1000 monthly send limit, $500 receive limit until you register a bank account.
Make sure you click on “Goods/Services” and not “Cash Advance” when you send!

  1. Sign up for Amazon Payments
  2. Send money to “someone else” (your other AP account), which you fund from your card *Select Goods/services*
  3. Put the money back in your bank account
  4. Use money to pay credit card off
  5. Free miles!

Update:

If you are wondering how you can apply for one of the business cards:
You do not need to have a business to sign up for the business cards. They will allow you to sign up under your own name. If you want to play it safe, run down to your county tax office and register a DBA (Doing Business As, a.k.a Fictitious name certificate). You can generally register a DBA for $5 and you should get a copy of your name certificate instantly – allowing you to apply as a business! If you are declined because of the number of applications, give them a call – they should be able to push the application through.

Update 2:

If you are given the 50/50 incentive in which you get the initial 50,000 miles with the other 50,000 miles being awarded after spending $10k and would prefer the 75,000 mile promotion:
I spoke with a rep who said you can call in after receiving the card and make a request for a change of bonus miles/promotion.

Update 3:

To get the application ID for when you call to verify your application and bonus amount do the following:

To find your ID click on view source on the html in your browser, the ApplicationID looks like this
IFRAME src=”https://poc.clixmetrix.com/B25E/97453071D77773E9/?ApplicationID=2010073190XXXX&Zip=xxxxxxxxxx” frameborder=”0″ height=”1″ width=”1″

You are looking for ApplicationID=, so then hit the Edit > Find (shortcut: Ctrl+F) and search for this: ApplicationID=
For today it will say ApplicationID=20100809???????, which is today’s date (2010, August, 9th) and your unique 7-digit code (???????).

Update 4:

I was approved for three different cards (Personal Visa, Business Visa and Personal AMX) and met the spending requirements already by buying dollar coins from the US Mint. I received 75,000 for each card for a total of 225,000 miles. The miles posted the my Advantage account the very next day, and I am now planning on using the miles for an around the world One World ticket in Business class! This has been one of the most lucrative offers in the last few years so I encourage everyone to at least apply and see what happens. You could be traveling for free for the next few years compliments of Citibank and American Airlines!

Update 5 11/16:

It looks like Citi changed the offer a bit, but it is still active. Check out the new links at Citi’s website by clicking here.

Update 1/11/2011

Another link with a little lower spending requirements here:

Molly- check back soon for a new Citi AAdvantage offer.

Joe- All of the American cards are pretty much the same, they all offer around 1 mile per dollar spent. If you have an existing card call and see if they have any promos available and they pay be able to give you 2 or 3 miles per dollar.

Looking for an active AA 100,000 biz card offer.
Anyone know a link or phone number?
I get error messages on the links listed here.

what credit card gets the most miles on aa. and how many miles do you get.thank you

May 12th: Applied for both Amex and Visa personal, instant approval for 75k miles, $1500/6mos. It's still alive!

Works! applied today - April 4th 2011 and the deal works. will let u know once i get the card but i called and they verified the 50 +50. Cheers

Thank you, Stasher!
I applied and received my cards a few weeks ago... met the $1500 spending limit on each and now I am just waiting for the statements to close.

For those approved in the last few months... how long did it take to receive your miles? Within a few days of stmt close?

Can my brother sign up for the 75,000 mile card and use my AA frequent flyer number
He owes me a bunch of ff miles and this would be a good way to repay

Can anyone confirm the 75,000 mile offer with only $1,500 spending requirement (updated posted 1/11/2011) is still valid? The fine print says that offer was valid only until 10/31/2010....

Andrew- Just be sure you print out the screen shot and the terms and you should be ok.

Hi applied following the two links, so will I have to spend $4000, or $1500 within the 6 months to get this 75000 bonus deal. I tried to get the application id but my browser is old so I couldnt follow the instructions. Tried calling customer service and they told me that they cant pull my record up with my ss number due to security reasons. I found another website that shows the 75000 miles after spending $1500 only, does it matter which one I go to? Im kinda scared because I applied for a master card and visa but I dont want to have to spend $4000 for both, $1500 sounds more reasonable. I hope the two links in the top are for the $1500 deal.

I just got the 75k miles for $1500 in 6 months... applied for Visa and Amex. Approved for Visa instantly. Called and confirmed rewards. Waiting on Amex

How long I have to wait to get 75k after I spent 1500 ?

call 1-800-408-4954. I just got one today.

Can anyone get the new 75K/100K offer posted in Update 5 on Nov 16th to work (offer good thru Feb 28, 2011)? Everytime I tried, I get the following message:

"A system error has caused a delay in processing your application. Please try again later."

I got a direct offer from AA myself, but it required $10K expenditures to get the 75K bonus miles - a lot more than the $4K in the current offer.

you can call citibank and ask - see the # above. I got the earlier rewards even thought they said it was expired.

So, please correct me if I am wrong. I applied after October 31, but before November 16th, and am wondering what deal I actually got (I haven't received my cards yet). I used the links in the original post for the Citi 75k Amex and the Citi 100k Visa. Am I going to get the 75k and 100k cards? From the most recent post on the 16th it seems that 1)only the 75k cards are still available, and 2)the terms have changed.

Thanks for the verification.

Eileen- The 30k is each way so you can fly into one city and then fly back from another city if you wanted to since each is a "one way ticket". If you go during low season to Europe its only 20k I believe.

When do I get the aadvantage membership #, or do I have to register for that on aa.com then link the credit cards somehow. I am lost on this step, got 2 cards for myself and wife. Just not sure how the aadvatage membership happens.

Andrew- You can either open an AAdvantage account on AA.com or you can apply for the card and Citi Bank will open an account for you. If you apply for two cards its best to sign up at aa.com so you can attach the same aadvantage number to both credit cards.

OK - this will be a silly question but i am a newbee at AAmileage awards. WHne it tells me it is 30,000miles from US to Europe - is that the round trip price and can you fly into one city and of another. for instance - can I fly into london and out of ireland for that 30,000? thanks for any help you can give me. If not, does anyone have a # they can give me to help with this? I am SO excited -I get to take my family to Ireland, now I just need to see how many miles I need. : )

Eileen- See the newest update from today regarding the newest confirmed offer. Happy travels :) !.

Maury- If you have a personal card that is currently open chances are they will not approve another personal card. You can however open a business account to receive another bonus. As far as Amazon Payments yes you have have to create another account because you have to set up a bank that you want the money deposited to. It is really simple, it takes about two minutes to open another account. Check out the link from the update today for the newest bonus info.

Have you been able to confirm it was extended to 2/2011? I was sick at first when it looked like it expired on 10/31. I want to take out family of 5 to ireland this summer- this would be awesome. I am calling in the AM to confirm and then apply. thanks so much

Hi Stasher. So we can assume that the above link offers have been extended to 2011? Also if I already have a personal AAdvantage Visa for over 2 mos., can I go ahead and apply for another? Last question, as far as Amazon Payments, I saw inside the account a send and request money, do I really need to create a totally new Amazon account just to receive? Thank you

Andrew- Click one of the links above for the application.

I called Citibank today and they have no knowledge of this 75K offer. They said the only offer they have available right now is for 40K bonus miles if you spend $1000 in the first 4 months. What to do??

How do you know if this offer is still active (doesn't it say that it expires on Oct 31st)

Citibank has extended this incentive until 2/28/2011

I applied for the Citibank Visa account on 10/25. Was denied because I was not a new Citibank cardholder (I thought maybe since I have only ever had a MC with them they would consider me a new customer for the VISA). I then applied for the AMEX business card since I have never had a business card from Citi. After waiting for more than 48 hours I called them today to ask about the status of my application. I was asked many questions regarding what my business was and if I could provide "documentation" that I have a business? Has anyone else been questioned like this? I have read on-line on several sites that you do NOT have to own a business to get a business card, and even so, you can say that your business is a "sole-proprietorship" which basically means you work for yourself and that this could be anything (eBay sales, "consulting", babysitting, etc.). I do occasionally work for myself as a sub-contractor, but otherwise I do not "own" a business. Citi said they would need to review my application further and I may be required to provide further verification of my business?! In the meantime I received an application in the mail for a 50,000 mile Citibank business card and an e/mail for a 40,000 mile Citi business card; all the same business card, just different mileage awards. I might add my husband and I have an excellent credit rating.

Bonnie, you may need to run down to your local tax office and file for a "fictitious name" certificate (also known as a DBA and Assumed Name). This will allow you to present the documentation they are requesting.

Hi Stasher, and thanks for the reply. I called Citi today to find out more info. I complained to them that my husband applied for the same card and was approved without them asking a single question. We file jointly and have the same income, credit ratings are very similar, etc. Citi said the "intent" of this card was for "business purposes". I told them that I am a licensed medical professional who does sub-contracting for various agencies. They said I would have to provide a copy of my license (no problem) but I also had to provide "proof that you are a business, such as a utility bill under the business name, tax records, a land based phone number which was registered under the business name or liability insurance contract under the business name". I told them I was apply for the business card as a "sole proprietorship", and that the "business" was my name only. They essentially told me that if I couldn't provide the above-mentioned "proof" of a business then tough. I asked them about the DBA and they said they would not accept this?! I think the program just got too popular and I have had Citibank cards in the past that I cancelled after I got my mileage incentives. This was over 2 years ago, and I have never had a business card from them.

Bonnie- If you apply for a business card as a sole proprietorship they usually use your personal credit to decision the application. They could see the inquiries from your other Citi cards and that is probably why they are giving you such a hard time. I would give it a few days and see if it work itself out, if not I would just have your husband apply for several cards. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!

Maybe see if they will take a tax id number as proof?

Hello Stasher,
great read! i've been looking for a way to get some bonus miles.
Have a question for you regarding your Amazon Payments idea. If you use a credit card on Amazon Payments, won't Amazon charge the recipient of the payments (i.e. your other account) 2.2% or 2.9% for the transaction? So sending $1,000, will cost you about $20 to $30.

Will- Amazon is not currently charging a fee to send money to someone via a credit card. As long as you select "merchandise" on Amazon the transaction will post to your account as a purchase and not a cash advance.

Offer is still going strong.

Was also approved for three cards from Citi. I will look into purchasing coins from the US mint to meet the spending requirements.

Just out of curiosity, how exclusive is this incentive? I have excellent credit, but my brother does not. His credit isn't horrible but he did go through a rough patch.

If you apply for this promotion, could you post your credit score and the results of your application?

I don't believe it is very "exclusive". If you have a moderate credit score with a clean recent history (no negatives in the past 1.5-2 years), than I would go ahead and apply. Remember that this is likely the best bonus you will see for some time.

Applied for this offer today... It will be active at least until October 31, 2010. However I'm not 100% confident Oct. 31st is the expiration date it may be available afterwards.

Thanks for the lead.
