National City / PNC Bank $300 and 50,000 points Bonus

National City (recently merged with PNC Bank) is offering a $300 bonus, and 50,000 bonus points when you open a personal checking account with direct deposit and use your check card. The Capital One incentive we just posted was our biggest incentive ever posted until this.

Here is how you get this bonus:

$100 Bonus – Have a direct deposit of at least $400 and make at least 10 check card purchases within the first 60 days of opening your new checking account with National City bank.
Second $100 Bonus – Maintain a monthly direct deposit until 3/30/2009 and use your debit card an additional 25 times before this date.
Final 100 Bonus – Continue with the monthly direct deposit and making another 25 check card purchases by 5/31/2009

After completing the requirements for all (3) $100 bonuses, you than qualify for the 50,000 bonus points.

To earn the 50,000 bonus points:

To earn the first 25,000: Enroll in PNC points or National City points by 5/31/2010. These bonus points will post by 7/31/2010.
To earn the final 25,00 points: Continue with a monthly direct deposit until November 2010. The points will post by 12/31/2010.

While this is the biggest bonus we have ever posted, they certainly do to to make this one not worth the hassle if you don’t intend to actually switch to National City/PNC. However, most of us will still jump through the hoops for this bonus. I have no doubt that we will keep seeing a lot more of these monster incentives from banks such as PNC and Capital One.

Capital One $300 Checking Account Bonus + Bonus Miles

Capital One has released a new checking account offer of $300, and you must hurry as the offer ends 12/31/2009. Their $150 offer was rather popular, but apparently it was not popular enough so they doubled it. This is a rewards checking account, and you will also receive 5,000 bonus miles!

The account carries no monthly maintenance fee and no minimum monthly balance requirements.

To qualify, you must open your account by 12/31/2009 and make two direct deposits of at least $250. You must use the promo code RCT and open the account at your local Capital One branch. There is a $50 minimum opening deposit required.

Bank of America has another $100 checking account incentive available. This bonus also requires a minimum $500 opening deposit. To receive the bonus, you must be a new Bank of America customer, keep the account open for at least 30 days, and make 1 transaction with your debit card.

You MUST use the offer code AOU261109.

The offer page says that if you open the account online, it’s 100% free and there is no listing of requirements to keep it free. From personal experience, the account is free as long as you have a monthly direct deposit. I will try and confirm with them regarding this offer.

Bank of America has a new offer available to existing and new customers. You need to visit the offer page (http://billpayoffer.bankofamerica.com) and sign up for the promotion. This offer also applies to small business accounts. There is a limit of one promotion credit per customer.

You will need to make 2 direct deposits within 30 days of signing up. The $25 bonus will be applied to your account (or mailed as a check) within 90 days if you qualified. Most people will probably already be making two bill payments through their account in the next 30 days anyhow. Personally, I make several for my auto loan and mortgage, and associated utilities so I don’t see this being an issue for most.

PNC Bank (owned by PNC Financial Services) is currently offering a $75 bonus for opening a checking account and making a direct deposit. Within 1 week of your first direct deposit you will see the reward posted to your checking account.

The minimum direct deposit is $400 to qualify for the bonus. This may be an issue for readers who in the past have made a direct deposit by withdrawing money from a paypal account which posts as an ACH deposit. You will not get this bonus by just making a penny deposit! It looks like PNC caught on to that, this is the first time I have noticed a minimum direct deposit amount.

PNC is not a bad choice for people living in north eastern parts of the United States. PNC Bank is probably not a good choice if you don’t live near a branch, as there are better online banks to deal with that offer higher interest rates and better non-local services.
